The Byron Middle School Builders Club is observing Builders Club week on February 23-27 by hosting dress up days for the student body. Through this service club, a program of Kiwanis International, students in middle school learn leadership skills while participating in their community through volunteer service. Students involved in Byron’s Builders Club have volunteered to stock shelves at People Helping People and Northern Illinois Food Pantry, built bird houses with the Byron Forest Preserve, held donation drives for Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter and Rockford Rescue Mission, helped Kiwanis Club with the pork chop sales, worked games at Halloween on the Prairie and Breakfast with Santa, collected funds for UNICEF with Trick or Treat for UNICEF, served a meal at the Rockford Rescue Mission, and will participate in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge. These students learn how to be leaders while working together, identifying unmet needs and finding solutions to problems in their schools or communities. Students who participate in Builders Club learn valuable skills they can carry with them as they grow. Any middle school student can be a member of the Builders Club. Registration materials can be found in the Byron middle school office.
Locally, our Builders Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Byron. The Kiwanis Club is honored to sponsor the Builders Club and believes the service hours given by this group are an important contribution to making our community a place where all children can thrive, prosper and grow. Adults wishing to learn more about joining our local Kiwanis Club can reach out to Amy Harn at aharn@byron226.org.
